NWjobspace.com was The Seattle Times Company's classified employment site until the launch of the current site in the summer of 2001. As the lead designer on this project, I worked with a core team consisting of two senior programmers and a producer to develop this site from initial product requirements, paper and clickable prototypes, through usabilty testing and launch. Originally intended to be a vehicle for other famliy members to keep abreast of how Brendan was doing, it quickly became apparent that, with college enrollment approaching, putting up "just a few things" wasn't going to cut it. The challenge was to design a site that would acommodate a wide variety of operating systems, transfer speeds and monitor sizes, while still being flexible enough to allow for expansion and additions. » read more about it |
The Seattle Times' web site, seattletimes.com, has consistently ranked in the "Top Ten" nationwide; traffic growing from 37,000 visitors monthly to more than 11 million in the four years since I joined the seattletimes.com team in November, 1996. Launched in December, 1995, there was, in the beginning, no dedicated staff to design, develop or code the site, let alone introduce new products. Once the news site was launched, the effort to protect, leverage and expand the revenue aspects of the newspaper's online service began. That's where I came in. » read more about it |
