Seattle singer Dana Lupinacci is an import from the "Right Coast," originally hailing from Connecticut. Now, who'd think that Connecticut could produce someone who has such a feel for the blues?

Classically trained, Dana has surely overcome the note-by-note approach that opera demands, yet has retained the range and discipline demanded by her former training. I haven't seen her break any glassware yet, but with her four-octave range, I'm sure it's only a matter of time. I just hope I'm not near a window...

Dana's band, always under the name of "The Jive Guys," features a solid roster of players, alternating between Greg Roberts on stand-up or the talented Patty Mey on electric bass. Dan Baker is a staple on the guitar. Dana has the ability to attract great musicians and the band jumps! Look for Dana and The Jive Guys to throw together a very cool mix of jump, swing, rumba and New Orleans style blues.

Nominated by the Washington Blues Society for "Best Female Vocalist" for 2002, Dana has another project in the planning stages - any "angels" out there? Her web site is in development, and a schedule will be available when it's launched. For now, look in "Blues to Do," or online at Washington Blues Society for calendar info.
