Alice Stuart is a total trip. Her résumé reads like anything you'd find in a "Who's Who" in the genre of the blues.
This, from Alice's own site: "Originally from Chelan, Washington, Alice Stuart began playing her Martin D18 guitar professionally in Seattle during the folk scare of the early 60's. She arrived in Seattle after graduation from high school, and stumbled into the legendary Pamir House in the University District with a baritone ukulele and about 10 folk songs she learned from a Burl Ives songbook. It proved a perfect place to practice the skills she already had and to gain new ones. Within 3 months, she had a real guitar and had expanded her repertoire and she was busy building her own style."
A talented and highly versatile musician, Alice has played, toured and performed with some pretty high-powered folks, and even Bonnie Raitt (a goddess, I blush) counts Alice as one of her seminal influences. Equally at home on acoustic or electric guitars, her delivery and phrasing are impeccable. And she can write! Triple threat, and a treat to catch live.
While the cuts available on this page show a strong country flavor, she really kicks some serious booty with the blues - not a lot of notes, but each one is in just the right place. Her new CD "Can't Find No Heaven" is finally out (released 06/18/02) after some delays. Tasty! If you want to catch her gigging, you can subscribe to her e-mail list, or follow the link (found below) on her site.
